Troop 6 October 09 outing - backpack in Yellowstone & Haunting of the Ekls

Ron and I went with Ryan, Nick, Seth, Brendon, and Phillip.  We had a

great time.  We decided not to ford the rivers in the low temps (it was

extremely cold on Friday morning).  However, the Shoshone geyser basin was

incredible...got some great pictures there.  The boys did a good

job...especially Seth and Phillip with their heavy packs.

We hiked about 8 miles or so the first day, camped, hiked another 2-3 miles

to the lake on Friday and camped again.  On Saturday, we hiked the 10 miles

out to catch the trucks before they were taken to the Bechler Ranger

Station...Ryan and Nick caught them in plenty of time.

In terms of temps...it was 27F (-3C) on Thursday morning, 15F (-9C) on Friday morning,

and 19F (-7C) on Saturday morning.  The days were in the 30s and 40s.  It snowed

the first day, but was dry the remaining days.  All in all...couldn't complain.

I picked up hiking staff medallions for the attendees for the next court of honor.

Thanks,

Dave

(Cheryl’s note - this was planned to be a 50 miler, but the weather didn’t cooperate.)

I’ve also added pictures from the Haunting of the Elks on 10/21.
