      5.  Transportation & Camping & Events

April 11 – Bike ride in the Tetons went well with 2 adults and 3 Scouts attending.

April 24-26 - Biking at Cedar Butte (Stewart & Macomb):  A fun campout…need to get patrol boxes cleaned up and the Scouts discussed the need to assign duty rosters for cooking and cleanup.  Scouts need to focus on cooking meals during the campouts rather than relying on no-cook meals.

May 13th:  Picnic at Cheryl’s house (parents should attend) at 7:30 pm.  This will be a potluck.  Look for an e-mail on what to bring.  This is in place of the regular meeting.

May 15th:  Scuba class at the aquatic center at 8 pm.  The cost is $20 and this event is for all Scouts.  Also Cub family camp that weekend.  We’ll go to Krupp, set up & come back to IF for Scuba.

May 30-31 - Backpacking (Donselar & Cosens):  Plan on meeting Friday evening at 5 pm.  We’ll camp at trailhead on Friday night and then camp on the trail on Saturday night.  This hike will be geared toward getting the newer Scouts engaged in backpacking and weight will be distributed according to their body weight.  We’ll cover the details and planning at the two meetings prior to the campout.

June 11-13 – Salmon River High Adventure Work Days (Salazar).  We need adults to help with this work…should be lots of fun with the rafting as the reward.

June 13-14 – Survival Campout at Birch Creek (Donselar):  This will be a scenario-based campout for a one-nighter.  We’ll cover as many emergency prep/wilderness survival requirements as we can and pass out partial blue cards after the campout.

Philmont High Adventure:  June 11-26, 2009 – cost is expected to be $850.  Regular meetings have begun and they still have room for a couple more Scouts…sign up now if you are interested.

Hawaii Adventure – Christmas 2009 (Donselar) – signups began at the Court of Honor.  We currently have about a dozen people signed up.  Cost is expected to be approximately $1000 per person.  We will meet at Dave’s house (580 Hickory Lane) at 6 pm on Sunday, May 10th.  Note this is a change from the 7th due to scheduling conflicts.

    6.  Advancement

Two Scouts finished the Camping merit badge and one is ready for a BOR.  Adults need to motivate our older Life Scouts to complete their Eagle work.

    7.   Service – no report.

     8.  Webelos Liaison – Family campout coming up on the weekend of the 15th. at Krupp.

      9.  Youth Membership – nothing to report.

     10. Training – Youth protection training for Scouts and adults this Wednesday during the regular meeting.  All participants in the upcoming trips should participate even if you are not a registered leader.

      11. District and Council – August 14-15 is District Scout Day with the Chukars.

    12.  Sign up for the National Jamboree celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting at myscouting.org.  The rummage sale is on June 6th – fundraising opportunity.  There is also a Dutch Oven Mothers Day fundraiser at the Council on Mother’s Day…look for a flyer to come home.

    13.  Scoutmater’s Minute:  Need help coordinating summer events…as usual, it promises to be a busy summer.  With all of the upcoming activities, make sure your physicals are up-to-date and you have the necessary swim-checks completed.

The next troop committee meeting will be May 18th at 7:30 pm (note this is a week early).
